Because of the importance of Movie Maker to casual Windows video makers, we ask Microsoft to leave the download up until they publish it in the Windows Store. In fact, Microsoft twice promised that the WOULD make Movie Maker available in the Windows Store "soon." However, "soon" will apparently not be coming by the time they remove the download from the web, if it ever comes at all. They have the technology to modernize Movie Maker, let alone the ability to keep it available as. That makes this decision by Microsoft feel like a million steps back from what they have accomplished. They've been doing so well with the Surface line, 3D object support, Xbox and Skype integration, and much more. However, Movie Maker has sat stagnantly the past 4 years while iMovie continues to improve worse, Microsoft is planning to kill it off altogether on January 10 for some strange, unexplained reason. They have had serious competition from Apple since about 2005, and Movie Maker is one of the things that has helped them more or less keep up with Apple. While there are several expensive and upscale video production apps like Adobe Premiere, Windows Movie Maker is free, accessible, and well-known. As the video-building app evolved, so did our society, to the point that we have come to rely heavily on online streaming. Since 2000, Windows has offered an easy-to-use, moderately powerful movie making tool that - along with YouTube and many other factors - would see the proliferation of hilarious, tragic, heartwarming, hilarious, and informative online videos.
